1. Arrival Speech
“Hi, I’m ______ with JL Heating & Air. Today we’re doing your furnace service and cleaning.
Before I get started, is the furnace heating okay? Any noises, cold rooms, short cycling, smells,
or anything else you want me to look at while I’m here?”
2. Safety Before Touching Equipment
Gas + electricity + combustion. Never trust a switch. Verify power is actually off before opening electrical, and know where the gas shutoff is before you start.
3. Cleaning Order
Clean first. Diagnose after the cabinet and burner area are clean enough to inspect properly.
4. Burners & Ignition
Weak flame-sensor microamps is a top cause of nuisance lockouts. Note the reading before and after cleaning.
5. Heat Exchanger Inspection
A cracked or failed heat exchanger can leak carbon monoxide into the home. If you find a crack, hole, or separation: shut the unit down, tell Josh immediately, and do not leave it running. This is a red-tag / safety call.
6. Gas & Combustion
Take a combustion analysis whenever possible. High CO is a safety issue, not just an efficiency number.
Rule of thumb: rising CO, sooting, or flame rollout = stop and investigate before signing off.
7. Electrical & Controls
Rule: replace capacitor if outside ±5% of rating, swollen, leaking, or rusty.
8. Airflow & Blower9. Venting & Drainage10. Reassemble Before Power On11. Startup & Sequence of Operations
Watch the whole sequence in order. If any step is out of order or missing, stop and diagnose.

15. Cleanup & Closeout
“Everything has been serviced and tested. I checked the burners, heat exchanger, gas and combustion,
electrical, airflow, venting, and temperature rise — and the furnace is operating safely and properly at this time.
Is there anything else you’d like me to look at while I’m here?”
